Soul Beauty Spa: a calm site with every treatment one search away.
Soul Beauty's old site already turned visitors into bookings. What held it back was everything search engines and screen readers read. The new site keeps booking one tap away, puts 67 treatments in eight groups on one searchable page, and describes the pictures on the home page for screen readers. It went live on September 22, 2026.
What changed, in numbers.
Numbers last updated October 14, 2026.
A site that booked well and read badly.
Soul Beauty Spa is a day spa in downtown San Rafael: facials, sugaring, lash and brow art, permanent makeup and more, by appointment. The old site did the first job well: Book, Call and Text sat one tap away, with the address and hours on the home page. Our Report Card graded it B+. What held it back was what machines read:
- The page title was a run of keywords, and the home page had no main heading.
- 30 of the 32 pictures on the home page had no description, so search engines and screen readers could not tell what they showed.
- No structured data told search engines the spa's name, address and hours.
- A Covid notice was still up, and the listings disagreed on the name and the street number.

A-Now40 of 50, the same five checks on the live site, October 14, 2026
The five checks, then and now
Our Website Report Card scores every site on the same five questions, each out of 10. Here is what it found on the old site, and the same five questions asked of the new site today.
Then, on the old site
Your Google listing and Maps, plus the listings AI assistants like ChatGPT read. The page title read "Soul Beauty By Melissa Specializes in Facials, Sugaring, Permanent Make Up, Lashes & Brow Art | Soul Beauty By Melissa", the homepage had no main heading (h1), and it carried no structured data giving search engines the business name, address and hours.
Now, on the new site
A clean title, a real main heading and DaySpa structured data with the name, address and phone. Read on October 10, the listings outside the site still used more than one name and street number; bringing them in line is the next step.
Then, on the old site
The site ran on a responsive Bootstrap template with a phone viewport set, and Book, Call, Text and Directions links sat at the very top of the page, which is what a visitor on a phone needs first. The page weight measured for the first version of this card could not be re-measured from the archive, so this check no longer rests on it.
Now, on the new site
Book in the header of every page and a Book and Call bar on phones, on a light page; this check follows Google's phone test week by week.
Then, on the old site
An elegant brand, a calm welcome, Book Online and Shop Online buttons where the eye lands first, and four client testimonials further down. Three details undercut it: 30 of the 32 image tags on the homepage carry no alt text (only the two logo images do), so search engines and screen readers cannot tell what the photographs show; a Covid-19 notice still asked clients to "please arrive masked"; and the footer's copyright line read "Posh" rather than your business name.
Now, on the new site
The calm brand kept; the Covid notice and the template's footer name gone; client reviews and the 2019 Best Waxing in San Rafael award on the home page; every picture described, or marked as decoration so screen readers pass over it.
Then, on the old site
Clear on all three. The services were named in the menu and described on the homepage, and the footer gave the address, 905A Irwin Street, with a directions link and a full hours table.
Now, on the new site
The treatments and 905A Irwin St in San Rafael lead the home page, by appointment only; the full weekly hours are the next addition.
Then, on the old site
Genuinely strong: the phone number was a tap-to-call link in three places with a text link beside it, info@soulbeautybymelissa.com was a tap-to-email link, and Book Online opened your Vagaro booking from the top of the page. This is the check most local sites fail and yours passed it.
Now, on the new site
Book in one tap from every page, call in one tap, Instagram and map links. The old site also had a text link and a tap-to-email address, which the new site does not carry.
The same phone, the same first screen.
Both sides are the first screen a visitor sees on a phone, at the same size. Drag across the screen, or use its arrow keys, to compare.

Before, the old site
- A page title made of keywords, and no main heading
- 30 of the 32 pictures with no description
- Book, Call and Text one tap away, which we kept
After, the new site
- Book now in the header of every page
- A clean title and a real main heading
- The pictures described for screen readers, the decorative ones marked
The grades on the screens are the Report Card’s: B+, 36 of 50, then; A-, 40 of 50, now. Before: the Internet Archive’s copy of June 16, 2026. After: the live site, October 14, 2026. Both on the same phone screen.
Keep what booked, fix what read badly.
- Every treatment, findable. 67 treatments in eight groups on the services page, with group chips and a search that suggests as you type.
- Booking one tap away. Book now in the header of every page, straight to the spa's booking calendar.
- Read correctly. A clean title, “Soul Beauty Spa | Facials, Sugaring, Brows and Permanent Makeup in San Rafael”, a real main heading, DaySpa structured data, and the pictures described for screen readers.
- Room for the signature services. Their own pages for permanent makeup, the experience, the soundbath and the gallery.
- In the owner's voice. The booking line on the services page is written in her own words.

The signature: find your treatment.
With 67 treatments, a guest who wants a brow treatment should not read through 26 sugaring options to find it. Try the finder here with a selection of the spa's real treatments.

What a screen reader hears
A visitor who cannot see the pictures hears their descriptions read aloud, and search engines read the same words. Switch between the old home page and the new one, for four of its pictures.
- A calm treatment room
- Microblading and shading, permanent makeup
- A lash lift
- Product display gua sha
On the old home page, 30 of 32 pictures had no description, so each was announced only as an image. The descriptions here are the live site’s own.
Booking stayed one tap away. Everything else got readable.
- 11 taps on Book from October 6 to October 13, 2026, each one opening the spa's booking calendar, from 51 visits.
- 22 of 25 pictures on the home page carry a description and the other 3 are marked as decoration; the old home page described 2 of 32.
- On Google's phone test the site scores 100 for best practices, 100 for SEO, 96 for accessibility and 76 for performance.
- On the Report Card’s own five checks, the new site scores 40 of 50 (grade A-), where the old site scored 36 (grade B+); the five, then and now, are above.
- A guest can find any of the 67 treatments by typing a word.
From the first look to today. Step through it with the buttons or the slider:
The deposit, and design under way.
The old site's strengths, booking, calling and texting in one tap, were the brief: keep them.
The second preview.
A calmer background, readable cards and a Book and Call bar on phones.
Her photos and her round-two notes.
The round was built and on her preview link the same night.
“Launch it.”

About the calendar. Our build clock, which runs only while the work is in our hands, counted about three and a half days of build time between September 6 and launch on September 22. The rest of those sixteen days was the spa’s review time: the second preview, the owner’s photo choices, her wording and the booking links. Each round of her notes was built and on her preview link the same day.

“Every treatment below is booked through our online calendar, where the prices and availability are always current. Not sure what to book? Reserve a consultation or call or text us and we will match the treatment to you.”
The numbers, and what they do not claim.
- A tap on Book opens the spa's booking calendar, and the booking itself happens there, so we count taps, never appointments.
- Visits and taps come from the site's cookie-free visit counter, October 6 to October 13, 2026. Ad blockers hide some visits and our own visits are left out, so every number is a floor.
- Pictures described: the live home page read on October 14, 2026 (25 pictures: 22 with a description, 3 marked as decoration with an empty description, which tells a screen reader to pass over them), against our Report Card's count on the archived old home page (2 of 32).
- Speed: Google PageSpeed Insights, phone test, October 14, 2026.
- The five checks, now: the same five questions the Report Card asked, scored on the live site on October 14, 2026, with the listings as we read them on October 10; the phone check is scored again every week from Google’s phone test.
- The time: our build clock, which runs while the work is with us and pauses while we wait on the owner, from September 6 to September 22, 2026.
- The quote is the owner's own wording for the services page, as she sent it to us.
These numbers are measured again every week, from the live site: speed on Google’s own phone test, visits and taps from the site’s cookie-free counter.
