Petiscos by Adega: a restaurant site that sends guests to the table.
The old Squarespace site hid the restaurant’s address and sent every reservation on a detour. The new site puts the menu in real text and booking one tap away. Since counting began on October 6, guests have tapped “Reserve a table” 162 times.
October 6 to October 13, 2026, counted.

A strong brand with a site that failed the basics.
Petiscos is the casual small-plates house from the family behind Adega, the San Jose restaurant that held a Michelin star in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022. The brand was strong, and the old site looked the part. But in August 2026 it was failing at the basics a hungry guest needs:
- The street address and phone number were not written anywhere on the site.
- The menu sat behind image tiles and had drifted out of date.
- Every reservation button opened a Locations page instead of the booking system.
- The home page weighed about 6.5 MB on a phone.
- The Locations page still promised a Gilroy opening in “2025”.
B-28 of 50 on our Website Report Card, August 2026
The same phone, the same screen, a different job done.
Each pair is the same phone and the same screen of the page a guest opens. The old site’s food photography was never the problem; what it left out was. So the comparison opens where a hungry guest goes first: finding the restaurant. Drag across a screen, or use its arrow keys, to compare.

Before, the old contact page
- A form and an email address
- No street address, phone number or map
After, the Visit page
- The street address as text, ready to copy or tap
- Apple Maps and Open in Maps, one tap each, plus an interactive map further down
- Where it sits: the SoFA district, near the convention center and the theaters
Before: the Internet Archive’s copy of the contact page, August 18, 2025. After: the live Visit page, October 14, 2026. The old menu page was never archived, so it is not shown.

Before, the old site
- No street address or phone number
- “Book A Reservation” opened a Locations page, not the booking system
- A photo fills the screen; the menu is behind image tiles
After, the new site
- The address, 399 S First Street, in the first lines
- Order online and Reserve a table, one tap each, in the header and the first screen
- The menu in real text, one tap away
Before: the Internet Archive’s copy of August 18, 2025. After: the live site, October 14, 2026. Both on the same phone screen.
Five changes a guest feels on the first visit.
- A menu you can read. The full menu is real text: searchable, readable on any phone, and quick to update when a dish changes.
- Booking and ordering one tap away. “Reserve a table” goes straight to Tock from every page. Delivery goes straight to DoorDash.
- Address and phone on every page. The Visit page adds the hours, Google and Apple Maps links and an interactive map.
- A story only this family has. “House by house” is an illustrated timeline of the family’s restaurants and their Michelin stars, plus a page for the coming Gilroy location.
- Nothing lost in the move. Old Squarespace links forward to the new pages, so bookmarks and search results keep working. Search engines read it as a Restaurant, with its address, phone and hours.
Guests find the table, not a detour.
From October 6 to October 13, the site had 1,283 visits. Where the taps went, from the most to the fewest; open a row to see what that tap does:
Reserve a table162
Opens Tock, the restaurant’s booking system, straight from any page. The booking itself happens on Tock, so we count taps, not reservations.
Order on DoorDash17
Opens the restaurant’s DoorDash page, where the order is placed.
Call8
Rings the restaurant from a phone, from the number written on every page.
Directions6
Opens Google or Apple Maps with the address already filled in.
On Google’s phone test (PageSpeed Insights, October 14, 2026), the home page scores 97 for performance and weighs 2.0 MB, down from about 6.5 MB:
- 97Performance
- 100Accessibility
- 100Best practices
- 100SEO
From the first look to today. Step through it with the buttons or the slider:
B-, 28 of 50, and a homepage concept.
Both as a gift. The old site was failing the basics a hungry guest needs: no address, no phone, and a reservation button that led to a Locations page.
The owners’ yes to a full rebuild.
The menu, ordering and booking, the family’s story, events and the coming Gilroy house.
The owner’s call notes, in the same evening.
DoorDash ordering everywhere, the duck rice as a signature, the Michelin history, the mailing list and the dates on the timeline.
The whole site, complete on its preview.
Every page built and checked for accessibility, ready and waiting for the owners.
“Okay to go live!”
The owner’s go came in the afternoon, and the site was live on petiscosadega.com within two hours.
Why launch came in October. The site itself was finished on September 17. The weeks after that were the owners’ time: they were traveling, and the launch waited, as it should, for their go-ahead. Once it came on October 5, the site was live in under two hours.
“Very positive experience!! Andre is very professional and makes the process very easy and personal!! I highly recommend this company!!!”
The numbers, and what they do not claim.
- A tap on “Reserve a table” opens Tock, and the booking itself happens on Tock, so we count taps, never reservations.
- Visits and taps come from the site’s cookie-free visit counter, from October 6, the day after launch, to October 13, 2026. Counting without cookies means ad blockers hide some visits, and our own visits are left out, so every number here is a floor.
- Speed and page weight: Google PageSpeed Insights, phone test, October 14, 2026. The old page weight is our Report Card’s measurement of the site as it stood in August 2026, so the two come from different tools, which is why the old one says “about”.
- The timeline: our own records of the build, from the Report Card of August 23 to launch on October 5, 2026.
- The before screens are the Internet Archive’s copies of August 18, 2025, the latest it saved of those pages; the after screens are the live site on October 14, 2026, on the same phone screen.
- The review is the public Google review of Loomwest by Fernanda, one of the restaurant’s owners, quoted word for word with the restaurant’s permission.
These numbers are measured again every week, from the live site: speed on Google’s own phone test, visits and taps from the site’s cookie-free counter.
Numbers last updated October 14, 2026.
