Auburn Sewing Studio: a studio site you can book and pay on.
The old Wix site told Google a different name and street address, showed a placeholder email and had no tap-to-call number. The new site went live on September 25, 2026, four days after the build began, and two days later students could pay for lessons online.
From the old Wix site to a studio you can book and pay on.
Numbers last updated October 14, 2026.
The classes were there. The name, the address and the way in were not.
Auburn Sewing Studio teaches sewing and quilting in downtown Auburn, California, to students from 8 to 98. On the old Wix site the classes, the prices and the story were all on the page, but:
- The page title, the line Google shows as the headline, still named the studio's earlier name and an old street address.
- The template's placeholder email showed beside the real one, and the social icons led nowhere.
- The phone number was plain text, not a tap-to-call link.
- No hours appeared anywhere on the site.
B-Then28 of 50 on our Website Report Card, the old site as it stood in August 2026
A-Now40 of 50, the same five checks on the live site, October 14, 2026
The five checks, then and now
Our Website Report Card scores every site on the same five questions, each out of 10. Here is what it found on the old site, and the same five questions asked of the new site today.
Then, on the old site
Your Google listing and Maps, plus the listings AI assistants like ChatGPT read. In August 2026 the site's page title, the line Google shows as the headline, still named "Arts Alive Sewing Academy" and 1230 High Street, as the archived copy shows it had since at least November 2024, while the page itself said Auburn Sewing Studio at 1119 High St #2, so search engines were given two names and two addresses.
Now, on the new site
The studio's name in the title, and one name and one address in LocalBusiness structured data, with Google and Apple Maps links. Read on October 10, Google Maps showed no Business Profile for the studio yet, so a profile of its own is the next step.
Then, on the old site
The Wix layout held up on a phone, and the first version of this card found it quick to load. The phone number, (530) 368-1983, was plain text rather than a tap-to-call link, which matters most to someone downtown deciding whether to stop in.
Now, on the new site
The number, which also takes texts, is one tap to call. The size of the photographs is what holds its speed score back.
Then, on the old site
Your photographs and the motto "Dream it, create it, adore it!" made a warm first impression. Three details worked against it: the site displayed info@mysite.com, the placeholder email Wix ships with; the social media icons were template placeholders that did not lead to your Facebook page, which has 860 followers today; and two of the images were Wix template stock, one carrying a Shutterstock copyright notice in the file.
Now, on the new site
No placeholder email, no dead icons and no template stock: the owner, her quilts and the studio's own photographs, under her motto.
Then, on the old site
What you do was clear, and the address, 1119 High St #2, was on the page, with the lesson prices stated plainly. Two gaps remained: the site stated no business hours, and workshop dates could not be found online.
Now, on the new site
The four ways to sew with what each includes, 1119 High St #2 with map links, and when: lessons and workshops by appointment, Open Studio by session.
Then, on the old site
There was a contact form, and your real email, ellenrivera1169@gmail.com, and your phone number appeared in the footer. The phone number was not a tap-to-call link, and the placeholder info@mysite.com also appeared on the site, so a visitor saw two email addresses and one of them was a template placeholder.
Now, on the new site
A tap-to-call number that also takes texts, a tap-to-email address, a contact form that lands in the owner's inbox, and Pay buttons on the lessons with Stripe receipts by email.
The old Wix site, then a site of its own.
The Internet Archive's last copy of the old site is from November 2024, under the studio's earlier name and with its pictures missing, so it would not be a fair before. It is described here as our Report Card found it in August 2026. The after is the new home page on a phone, from its first screen.
Now A-, 40 of 50 on the Report Card’s five checks
One name, one address, and a way in.
- The right name and address everywhere. “Auburn Sewing Studio | Sewing and Quilting Lessons in Auburn, CA” as the title, the address in structured data, and Google and Apple Maps links.
- Four ways to sew. Private lessons, workshops and quilt camp, seasonal projects and Open Studio, each stitching itself into place as you scroll.
- Pay online. Pay buttons on the lessons, through Stripe, with a receipt by email and room for a coupon code.
- Reach the owner. Call or text in one tap, and a contact form that lands in her inbox.
- A hero you can sew on. Move the pointer across the quilt on the home page and it stitches a line behind it.
The signature: the quilt.
The studio's motto is “Dream it, create it, adore it”, and its home page is sewn the same way: the pointer stitches a line across the quilt, the Dresden plate pieces itself together wedge by wedge as it comes into view, and the owner’s own fabrics catch the light square by square. Watch it, then try the stitch yourself.
Sew a line
Move your pointer across the fabric, or drag a finger on a phone. It is the effect the studio’s home page plays across its quilt.
A studio that can be found, called and paid.
- 121 visits from October 6 to October 13, 2026.
- 11 taps on the site's buttons in the same days: 6 on a Pay button, 3 to call, 1 for directions and 1 to email.
- On Google's phone test the site scores 100 for accessibility, 100 for best practices, 100 for SEO and 74 for performance.
- On the Report Card’s own five checks, the new site scores 40 of 50 (grade A-), where the old site scored 28 (grade B-); the five, then and now, are above.
- Live four days after the build began, with online payments two days later.
From the first look to today. Step through it with the buttons or the slider:
B-, 28 of 50, and a homepage concept.
Both as a gift: what the old Wix site was telling Google, and what the studio's site could look like.
The build begins.
The owner's yes came on September 4; the build started once her photos and class details were in.
Live four days later.
On sewauburn.com, with a coupon code box added the same evening at the owner's ask.
Lessons you can pay for online.
Pay buttons through Stripe, with a receipt by email.
“I'm going to need your business cards.”
The owner, already sending others our way: “I have interest already.”
About the calendar. The owner said yes on September 4, then gathered her photos and her fall calendar. On September 17 we built a first version from her old site so she had something to react to, and once she was ready on September 21, the new site was live four days later, with online payments two days after that.
Where the taps went, from the most to the fewest; open a row to see what that tap does:
Pay for a lesson6
Opens a secure Stripe checkout for a lesson; the payment itself happens there.
Call3
Starts a phone call to the studio.

Opens a map to the studio.

Starts an email to the studio.
On Google’s own phone test (PageSpeed Insights), October 14, 2026. The quilt photographs are what hold the performance score back:
- 74Performance
- 100Accessibility
- 100Best practices
- 100SEO
“I'm going to need your business cards. I have interest already.”
The numbers, and what they do not claim.
- A tap on a Pay button opens a Stripe checkout, and the payment itself happens there, so we count taps, never payments.
- Visits and taps come from the site's cookie-free visit counter, October 6 to October 13, 2026. Ad blockers hide some visits and our own visits are left out, so every number is a floor.
- Speed: Google PageSpeed Insights, phone test, October 14, 2026: 100 for accessibility, 100 for best practices, 100 for SEO and 74 for performance, held back by the size of the quilt photographs.
- The five checks, now: the same five questions the Report Card asked, scored on the live site on October 14, 2026, with the listings as we read them on October 10; the phone check is scored again every week from Google’s phone test.
- Four days: our build clock, from the start of the build on September 21 to launch on September 25, 2026.
- The before: our Website Report Card of the old Wix site as it stood in August 2026. The Internet Archive's last copy is from November 2024, under the studio's earlier name and with its pictures missing, so the page describes the old site instead of showing that copy. No student appears in any film here.
- The owner's words come from her text and email to us, quoted word for word.
These numbers are measured again every week, from the live site: speed on Google’s own phone test, visits and taps from the site’s cookie-free counter.
Numbers last updated October 14, 2026.
